Review – Sterling’s, Reno, NV

20150412_033222Whilst in Reno, I got to try a couple of different restaurants.  On my first night, I tried Sterling’s Seafood Steakhouse inside the Silver Legacy casino/ hotel.  It’s been rated one of the top 100 restaurants in the country, and I can see why!

Definitely get reservations, even if it’s just one person.  Normally, since it’s usually just me, I will sit at the bar so as not to take up table space, so I don’t make reservations.  This time, however, I discovered Sterling’s doesn’t have a bar area, only tables, so reservations are pretty much required.  The hostess was quite kind and squeezed me in for a half hour later.  Right across from Sterling’s is a lounge area, so I just hung out.

When I returned, the hostess remembered me and had someone escort me right to the table.  Highly unusual, and great customer service!  When I was seated, he informed me of the TWO servers who would be taking care of me that night.  He also handed me their menus.  Their menu is quite extensive and they give you an old-fashioned menu and an iPad, in case you’d like to view the menu complete with pictures.  Quite inventive, I thought.

Ricky was right there to inform me of specials and to get me started with a beverage.  Their attention to the customer’s needs was outstanding!  Ricky worked with me to determine what I could have to eat at Sterling’s.  Their ingredients are fresh and the chefs are to be commended.  As usual, I had a Romaine salad with Parmesan cheese, olive oil, vinegar, salt, and pepper.  Ricky was so on top of things that as SOON as I finished my salad, he was there to take my plate away!  His partner for the night was Cody, and he was just as wonderful.  There was no looking around to find someone to fill my water glass, for Cody wouldn’t let it drop below an inch.

For dinner, I had the large filet mignon with steamed purple cauliflower, broccolini, and carrots.  They have a “waiter’s butter”, which is real butter with garlic & chives that they serve on the steak if you desire.  The plating was so lovely that I forgot to take a picture before I dove on in, but here it is:  20150410_195842It was scrumptious!  Of course their desserts were off limits to me, but they do have a great selection.  For those of you who like after-dinner mints, you are in for a treat!  They serve mini waffle cones, enrobed in chocolate with a light mint filling.

All in all, this was a great experience with good food, but be ready to pay for it.  Sterling’s is definitely a fine dining restaurant, complete with the prices that go with the title.  You absolutely get what you pay for!  Save your pennies and try them out when you are in Reno.  🙂
