Review – Saddle Ranch in Glendale, AZ

20150815_152013Recently, I had the amazing opportunity to go to a NFL game held in Glendale, Arizona.  I’m a football fan from way back, but this was my very first game in person, so I was stoked!  Knowing there would be nothing substantial for me to eat at the stadium, we walked over to the Saddle Ranch Chop House, which was relatively close.  Located in the Westgate City Center of Glendale, it was within walking distance of the stadium.  Now, saying that, I must tell you that the day I went, the temperature outside was 115 degrees and MUGGY!  Ughhh.. That walk to the Chop House was brutal.  Thank goodness we got there early enough to not have to stand outside!

The decor is very ranch-like.  Lots of things hanging on the wall, along with “Cowboy sayings”.  Here’s a picture:

20150815_152019The server was nice enough, but we didn’t really enjoy our stay.  There was only one thing on the menu that I could work with, and that was the hamburger.  When ordering, I TOLD the server that I was highly allergic, so I’d need the hamburger patty on a plate with cheddar, no bun, no lettuce, no sides etc. Normally, hamburgers come with iceberg lettuce, so I asked to make sure, and the server told me they served iceberg.  In reality, they actually served romaine.  Back to the order.  It took her a few minutes to truly understand what I was talking about, and she asked me a couple of times what sides I wanted to have. Oy!  She did keep me supplied in water which I sorely needed however.

Another server brought out our food, and there was my hamburger on a plate ON A BUN!  When I informed that server that my food was not how it was ordered, she tried to put the blame on the original server, who just happened to be in ear shot.  They got into a discussion about how the order was originally placed and the new girl took the hamburger away.  She returned a few minutes later with my hamburger patty on the plate.  Suspicious of the quick turnaround, I asked if all she did was take the patty off of the bun.  Truthfully, she said, “yes”.  Then I informed her that there was a specific reason I couldn’t have it on the bun and that they’d need to remake it.  Again, more discussion with our server.   Believe me, I memorized the look of that burger to make sure they just didn’t reheat it and bring it back to me.  😉

When the new burger arrived, and yes, it was a new one (!), it seemed fine, but my friend was almost already finished with their meal.  Frustrating, to say the least.   Maybe I should have taken the advice on the wall above our table:
