Review – Thirteenorth Grille – Phoenix, AZ

20150518_180145Recently, on a trip to Phoenix, I ran across this delightful restaurant.  Located off of Northern and N. 13th Street, Thirteenorth Grille is located in a strip mall, but it certainly doesn’t feel that way inside.  It’s not a huge place, but the food is exquisite!  Upon looking at it from the outside, you might think the menu would contain the average “grill” fare, but you’d be wrong.  Oh sure, they have burgers (1/2 lb. certified Angus Beef), but they also have items you wouldn’t expect, like Calamari, Crab cakes, Chicken Marsala, and Shrimp Scampi.  They even have a 3 cheese “Build a Mac”, which is mac and cheese made YOUR way.  Great variety in their menu.  Everything looks and tastes wonderful!!  Check out their complete menu.  For pictures of the yummy goodness, click on their Thirteenorth website.

For those with restrictive diets, Thirteenorth definitely delivers.  Not only was my server, Kelly, attentive, she was also very knowledgeable and friendly.  What a joy she was!  The chef prepared my order exactly as I’d requested it.

While I was there, I ordered the “Build your own burger”.  It was an Angus steak burger, with blue cheese, cheddar, avocado, and no sides (obviously no bun either for me).  Kelly got my order quickly and I didn’t have to wait long for it to arrive.  What yummy goodness!  All their meals have a gourmet flair about them, and this was no exception.  The only thing that differed from the gourmet taste was the gourmet price.  My meal was quite reasonable, and only cost about $11, even after all my add-ons.

It was fairly crowded, but I didn’t have to wait.  Kelly informed me that this isn’t always the case, especially on the 13th of every month.  On the 13th, they offer AMAZING food specials, and their drink specials can’t be beat!  Normally, they have some bottles of wine for $13, and the drink prices are reasonable to begin with.  However, on the 13th of each month, they offer a “Buy one at normal price, and get the subsequent ones for $.13!!”  YES, thirteen cents!  Even for a bottle of wine!  So, if you head over there to check it out, prepare yourself for a wait if it’s on the thirteenth!

Thirteenorth Grille is open for lunch and dinner everyday, and is even open for breakfast on the weekends.  It’s one of those hidden gems that you should look for in a restaurant.
